Hydrotherapy at The Bathing Pool.
Many people book the pool for do-it-yourself Hydrotherapy, to continue their exercises learnt at other hydrotherapy pools with a Physiotherapist. However, the lack of any life guards or support staff must be taken into consideration when booking the pool. Ideally individuals will come with a partner or friend who could come to their aid in an emergency. If this is not possible the owners can put you in touch with others wishing to use the pool for hydrotherapy, so that the session can be shared more safely. If you wish to be assessed and supervised by a qualified Physiotherapist, then please contact Mary Sutton Coulson (Grad Dip Phys MCSP) on 02392 92550301, who runs a class on Monday afternoons.
Hydrotherapy treatment uses the properties of the warmth of the water, its buoyancy and resistance to a therapeutic advantage. The warmth of the water increases the flow of blood to the muscles which eases stiffness, reduces pain and encourages movement which is often not possible out of the water. The buoyancy reduces weight bearing through the body and can therefore provide assistance to movement. Conversely the resistance of the water can be used to make movement more difficult, these properties allow exercises to be graded from very gentle to quite strenuous. Also because of the warmth and the peace and quiet of a private pool, using the hydrotherapy pool can be both mentally and physically relaxing.
For those with concerns about access to the facilities, private parking is available less than 10 metres from the rear entrance to the pool and ramps run up to all entrances to the building. Entering the pool is via staircase type steps with a solid stainless steel handrail for support.
